The Super Eagles recorded their first win of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Cup qualifiers defeating Seychelles 3-0 in their Group E clash in Victoria on Saturday, reports Completesportsnigeria.
Goals from Captain Ahmed Musa, Chidozie Awaziem and Odion Ighalo gave the Gernot Rohr’s men a comfortable win in the encounter.
The win wass the first for the Super Eagles in two years away from home. Their last away win was against Zambia in Ndola.
The Super Eagles were aggressive at the start of the game forcing their hosts into defending in numbers.
Musa led by example firing home a thunderous strike from the edge of the box which beat Jerome Longueuil in goal for Seychelles in the 15th minute.
The lead was doubled in the 34th minute when Awaziem finished off a rebound after Kelechi Iheanacho’s free kick hit the upright.
Ighalo had a chance to make it 3-0 three minutes later after he beat the offside trap but his lob over the goalkeeper came off the crossbar.
At the start of the second half, the Super Eagles started how they ended in the first stanza, in the half of the Seychellois and were duly rewarded with a goal three minutes before the hour mark.
Samuel Kalu who was making his debut for Nigeria was brought down in the box and the resultant spot kick tucked in by Ighalo.
The goal was Ighalo’s fifth for Nigeria and it also ended his nine game goal drough for the Super Eagles.
The Changchun Yatai striker missed a chance to make it 4-0 but his effort was block by the Seychellois defence.
Rohr brought on Oghenekaro Etebo for Iheanacho, Semi Ajayi for Chidozie Awaziem who copped an injury during the course of the game, and Henry Onyekuru for Samuel Kalu but neither of them could add to the tally.
Nigeria still remain third in the group despite the win, and will host Libya in their next game.
